1. A description has been given of a Goshawk in adult plumage, found dead in the forests of Hamm-Bossendorf, Siegerland, on February 16, 1971. The bird combines the characters of Central European Goshawks(Accipiter gentilis “gallinarum”) with those of large tropicals hawks, particularly ofA. melanoleucus, A. meyerianus andA. poliogaster.

2. This study examines the possible protective effect of the Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) on two of its main prey species, the Black Grouse (Tetrao tetrix) and the Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus).
